The impetus for us to produce this report and the accompanying case studies was initially
born out of our frustration at the lack of recognition at all levels of the health service and
within Government of the key contribution that senior nurses in clinical decision-making
roles currently make to our health service – and the huge potential to develop this nursing
workforce for the future.
